The Mukherjee Development – a dose of musical magic
The Mukherjee Development is a Danish band based in Copenhagen, Denmark, formed at the height of the pandemic in 2020. Their particular brand of “Nordic Sunshine” blends the likes of Coldplay and Tom Petty with a healthy dose of laid-back attitude ala Kurt Vile.
Danish/American/Indian frontman Oscar Mukherjee grew up in California, before moving to Denmark in his teens. The Mukherjee Development embraces his three different cultural backgrounds, with songs about devotion and identity in a multi-cultural 21st century. Oscar Mukherjee is backed by a group of Danish heavyweights known otherwise from the likes of Jonah Blacksmith and Peter Sommer & Tiggerne.
The Mukherjee Development released their debut album, Burnin’ Time, to critical acclaim in early 2022. Not ones to waste time, the band quickly followed up by releasing their second album in the fall of 2023; Should I Dance For You?, an album that critics say only further cement the band’s upwards trajectory.
Their prolific output has earned the band a Danish Music Award nomination (album of the year), airplay on the three biggest national radio stations (DR P4, P5, and P6), and seen them perform live on national television (TV2 / Go’ Morgen Danmark).
“They just might be the best live band in Denmark”
The Danish music publication, Side 33, recently said of the band “they just might be the best live band in Denmark”. No wonder! The band has played approx. shows (and counting…) in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway since 2022, and judging by the rapidly growing audiences’ responses in Scandinavia, The Mukherjee Development is striking a chord that just keeps on ringing.
The band is currently on a lengthy Danish release tour in support of their second album, Should I Dance For You?. Next, they have their sights trained on the broader European and North American markets, with 2024 shaping up to be their biggest and most internationally active year to date.
